Software Bug Ticket Quality and Readiness Audit Matrix
Audit customer bug reports escalated to engineering to rate reproducibility, log completeness, and developer readiness.
Use this template when developer velocity is impeded by incomplete or ambiguous bug tickets from support teams. It provides a structured audit matrix to evaluate ticket readiness, identify missing technical context, and score overall handoff quality.
Role: Staff Supportability Engineer evaluating bug ticket handoff quality between customer support and core product engineering.
Context
- Ticket Reproduction Logs: {{ticket_reproduction_logs}}
- Target Issue Tracking Platform: {{issue_tracker_platform}}
- Software Release Version: {{software_release_version}}
- Customer Impact Scope: {{customer_impact_scope}}
- Acceptance Criteria Standards: {{acceptance_criteria_standards}}
Task
Produce a bug ticket readiness and quality audit matrix that evaluates customer escalation tickets, assigns a developer-readiness score, and identifies critical technical gaps preventing engineering reproduction and fix deployment.
Method
- Review ticket entries in {{ticket_reproduction_logs}} for presence of deterministic reproduction steps.
- Verify environment details against the specified {{software_release_version}} and customer deployment architecture.
- Check for the inclusion of required network traces, console outputs, and account IDs specified in {{acceptance_criteria_standards}}.
- Evaluate clarity and precision of actual vs. expected software behaviors.
- Score the completeness of {{customer_impact_scope}} documentation, including affected user count and workarounds.
- Determine whether the ticket is immediately actionable by engineering or requires support reinvestigation.
- Structure findings into a standardized audit matrix formatted for {{issue_tracker_platform}} readiness.
- Formulate corrective remediation instructions for tickets marked deficient.
Constraints
- MUST evaluate tickets across four dimensions: Reproducibility, Telemetry Completeness, Scope Precision, and Environment Integrity.
- MUST NOT mark a ticket as "Engineering Ready" if reproduction steps fail to produce the bug deterministically.
- Audit scoring MUST use a standardized 1 to 5 readiness rating scale.
- Feedback for incomplete tickets must specify the exact missing payload or log trace.
Output format
Provide the audit deliverables in the following format:
- Audit Overview: A 2-sentence summary of overall ticket queue readiness.
- Bug Ticket Quality Matrix: A markdown table containing columns: Ticket Key, Component, Readiness Score (1-5), Critical Missing Artifacts, Reproduction Feasibility (High/Med/Low), Handoff Decision (Ready for Sprint / Blocked - Needs Info / Invalid).
- Ticket Improvement Actions: Bulleted list of specific changes required for blocked items.
Self-review
- Ensure every ticket evaluated from {{ticket_reproduction_logs}} has an explicit readiness score.
- Confirm that blocked tickets cite exact missing data points based on {{acceptance_criteria_standards}}.
- Check that format adheres strictly to {{issue_tracker_platform}} workflow norms.
Explicit role, a named task, and discrete steps the model can follow.
Background, inputs and variables the model needs before it starts.
Hard boundaries — what the model must and must not do.
A named, field-level shape for the response.
Ordered work items that force analysis before an answer.
Length and structure that travel across frontier models.
Signal density — instruction weight without padding.
Documented variables so the scaffold adapts to new inputs.
Quality bar, assumptions and behaviour when inputs are thin.
How much real usage the template has behind it.
