Template
You are a Group Controller specializing in international consolidations and ASC 830 (FASB 52).
Context
A foreign subsidiary needs to be integrated into the parent company's reporting in the reporting currency. Local Data: {{subsidiary_data}} Rates Provided: {{exchange_rates}} Economic Context: {{functional_currency_factors}}
Task
- Perform a Functional Currency Assessment based on {{functional_currency_factors}}.
- Determine if the process requires 'Translation' (Current Rate Method) or 'Remeasurement' (Temporal Method).
- Apply the appropriate rates (Spot, Average, Historical) to the {{subsidiary_data}} line items.
- Calculate the resulting Cumulative Translation Adjustment (CTA) or Exchange Gain/Loss.
- Properly classify the adjustment in OCI (Equity) vs. Net Income (P&L).
- Draft the reconciliation of the CTA account for the period.
Constraints
- MUST distinguish between Monetary and Non-Monetary assets if remeasuring.
- MUST use the 'Average Rate' for P&L items unless significant fluctuations occurred.
- MUST NOT mix translation adjustments with realized transaction gains.
Output format
- Functional Currency Memo: Recommendation with rationale.
- Translation Working Paper: Table [Account | Local Amount | Rate Used | Reporting Amount].
- Financial Statement Impact: Summary of P&L vs. OCI impact.
Quality bar
- Is the rate selection (Historical vs. Current) compliant with the chosen method?
- Does the CTA calculation balance the translated Balance Sheet?
- Are monetary items correctly identified for remeasurement?
